Our MissionOur product has a mission. The mission to save lives. Currently in Africa, millions of people die from lack of water, clean water, or even die from diseases transferred from water. Much of the problem resides in that most of the people do not actually have assess to clean water, whether it because they are too poor to afford clean water, or they simply don't have the means of cleaning the water because of how little water they have. However, with our new product, The Hydrosphere, we will be able to clean water with the built in filter, but also transport it on a sphere-like container, where it can be pulled or pushed. This allows water to be very conveniently transported to villages farther away from the water, or to villages that are near water, but really just need some kind of filtering device. This also allows villagers to sell or trade water for extra income, as the filter itself is able to handle a large amount of water, before needing to be replaced.

This device is made up of a cardboard sealed, metal enforced globe that is protected very well. It has 16 by 16 dimensions, and holds up well against the brute force of nature. The filter inside is made up of a tri-layer filtration system that would be classified as a reverse osmosis water purification system. It is made up of 3 layers of filter padding, with 2 layers of sand to prevent the charcoal from leeching into the water, and to prevent larger particles such as sticks and twigs from getting into the water, but also a layer of activated charcoal to take care of all the bacteria and the bad biological portions of the water. This filter is able to last up for a while, as the filter itself is 14 inches long, by 4 inches wide. This creates the ability to filter water very quickly and efficiently, and will suffice enough water (3 gallons) of drinking water for a while.

Important things for a water filter
Nitrates are filtered in 3 separate ways, either through reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, or ion exchange. Reverse osmosis is a process where a pressure forces an amount of water to be forced through a filter, which results in sediment and nitrate to be stuck on the filter, while only the pure water is allowed to pass through. Ion exchange is where other materials are added to water, to remove all of the nitrates, in order to purify the water. Lastly, electrodialysis is where the water is transported through a semipermeable membrane, where an electric substance or factor is included to remove the nitrates from the water.
Phosphate is basically a mineral found in decaying plants and animals that eventually flow into the river as runoff, much of which is found in places such as river runoff, or sewage systems. Phosphates is one of the key elements needed for plants and animals to grow as it is a backbone of DNA. It helps with the growth of the most basic producers on our food chain, and is a very key element to our ecosystem.
Turbidity is the way you check how clear or dirty a water is by looking at its transparency and by seeing how many particles of non-water things are floating around the water because of the disturbance of light flowing through the water. Turbidity is good to see how clear water is before you drink it in order to tell how many possible bad particles of water are in the filter itself. This is crucial to checking how well a water filter works in order to filter out bad particles, and helps with seeing if particles get filtered out or not.
